The world needs a new source of energy, an unspillable source.

What size Wind Turbine would we need to benefit our campus?

In a good month we use 57,000KWH. A small turbine for a home costs $10,000 to purchase and install, only generates 2,000 KWH per year, and it’s simply not feasible. The savings have to be more significant for it to be an option for us.

Wind turbine proposal at Turkey Hill

Wind turbine proposal at Turkey Hill Later this summer, the Planning Board could once again be considering a wind turbine project within the Cohasset borders.  In a preliminary presentation to the Alternative Energy Committee Tuesday night the Trustees of Reservations brought forward its still under-development proposal to erect a wind turbine on the Cohasset side […]

Physics Question on Wind turbine?

The power generated by a wind turbine is given by: P =1/2epAv^3 Where e is the turbine efficiency, p is the density of air, A is the area spanned by the wind turbine and v is the wind speed. Assume that we want to buy some number of wind turbines with e = 1/2 and […]

Maker Workshop – Wind Power Generator on MAKE: television

Taking a motor from an old exercise treadmill and some PVC pipe, John Park constructs a wind-powered generator. The electrical power may not be enough to get your home off the grid, but the great thing about the project is how it explains in simple terms the technology involved in turning wind into free electricity. […]

is it possible to use a tornado’s power to generate energy?

i can see it now wind funnel turbines, scattered throughout tornado alley, waiting for a tornado to collapse in it’s grasp.. hot air rises , cold air drops- bang.. tornado? would a hydrogen tipped missile cause enough of a temperature change to stop a tornado ?

How to hook up my stationary RV to wind turbine?

Hi folks. I recently built a wind turbine that generates about 400w of DC electricity. I’d like to hook it up to an RV that just sits on my property so that my wife can have a little retreat away from the kids and a place to run a sewing machine, which obviously uses AC […]

wind turbine generator?

I’m making a small wind turbine for a science project. It doesn’t need to produce a lot of electricity, just enough to register on a multimeter. I just need to know: For the generator, are magnets and coils the only things I need for the turbine to generate electricity? Or is there something else I’m […]

Harnessing wind power?

I had a fan in my window, that was plugged in, but not turned on. The wind was making the blades spin. I thought for a second, “Is that generating power, going back into my wall?” Then I realized that, no, because it was turned off, the circuit wasn’t complete inside the fan. Then I […]
