The Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactor: What Fusion Wanted To Be
Google Tech Talks November 18, 2008 ABSTRACT Electrical power is, and will increasingly become, the desired form of energy for its convenience, safety, flexibility and applicability. Even future transportation embraces electric cars, trains, and chemical fuel production (jet fuel, hydrogen, etc.) based upon an abundant electrical supply. Although existing energy sources can and should be […]
Physics Practice Problem – A nuclear-fueled electric power plant utilizes a so-called “boiling water reactor”.?
This was a practice problem for a test review. A nuclear-fueled electric power plant utilizes a so-called “boiling water reactor”. In this type of reactor, nuclear energy causes water under pressure to boil at 283 °C (the temperature of the hot reservoir). After the steam does the work of turning the turbine of an electric […]
Radioactive Boy Scout Part 2 – Building the Reactor
Part 1 here: www.youtube.com David Hahn, nicknamed the “Radioactive Boy Scout”, is an Eagle Scout who received a merit badge in Atomic Energy and spent years tinkering with basement chemistry which sometimes resulted in small explosions and other mishaps. He was inspired in part by reading The Golden Book of Chemistry Experiments, and tried to […]

NRC Questions Westinghouse Reactor Design
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has questions about the a design by Westinghouse for a new reactor. Regulators say the AP1000 doesn’t meet some safety standards. Meanwhile, 14 projects have been put on hold until Westinghouse can prove otherwise. Clean Skies News’ Executive Editor Margaret Ryan has more.
