BP Fails To Plug Gulf Of Mexico Oil Leak With Top Kill Method, Plans To Try New Method

British oil giant BP is working on a new way of stopping the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico after its so-called “top kill” method failed. In the firm’s latest setback, BP said it had accepted the operation to block the hole with mud and other material had not worked after studying it for three days. “We have not been able to stop the flow,” chief operating officer Doug Suttles said, “We have made the decision to move on to the next option.” Hopes had been growing that the top kill method was beginning to stem the flow of oil after the US Coast Guard said the well had stabilised. The spill is the worst in US history and has dumped between 18 and 40 million gallons into the Gulf, according to government estimates. BP said it is already preparing for the next attempt to stop the leak – using robot submarines to cut off the damaged riser from which the oil is leaking, and then trying to cap it with a containment valve. It is as enraging as it is heartbreaking, and we will not relent until this leak is contained, until the waters and shores are cleaned up, and until the people unjustly victimised by this man-made disaster are made whole. US President Barack Obama The new attempt will take four days to complete. “We’re confident the job will work but obviously we can’t guarantee success,” Mr Suttles said of the new plan. Oil has been spewing from the well since the Deepwater Horizon rig exploded and sank on April 20, killing 11 workers and sparking an environmental disaster

I do not own this. I’m not making any money from it and I believe it is something everyone should see. This footage shows a small glimpse into BP’s “top kill” attempt to plug the leak point with mud. I’ve pasted links below where I found this information. The video almost looks like it’s a few frames looped over and over. The video is from WKRG News 5 (Mobile – Pensacola) www.wkrg.com and the Audio is from C-SPAN, www.c-span.org a committee of House Reps meeting with Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar on May 26, 2010, just before the “Top Kill” attempt by BP. § 107.Limitations on exclusive rights: Fair use Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 106 and 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. 1. How can the president say that it is down to BP to stop the leak when it is clear that they cant? Why is he so hesitant to act? This is a national disaster, Mr President.

  2. @pr7820 People blame the President, BP for being greedy. I blame the citizens who seem to be pointing fingers at everyone else but themselves. People conveniently drive huge gas hungry SUVs and trucks and then expect cheap gas to automatically reach the pumps. What a bunch of hypocrites.

The government needed American votes for cheap gas so they did not ask the right questions. BP wanted to make money. And the people wanted dirt cheap gas to fuel their huge overweight behinds.

  3. @MTERM775

How “DARE” these sub-human weeds living in gulf coast get upset about BP’s oil ruining their environment and heratige.

How “DARE” they not just submit and accept millions of gallons of crude oil awash on their beaches without question.

How “DARE” they get upset about an ecological disaster like this.

How “DARE” the low income scum living on the gulf coast worry only about their own petty well being
How “DARE” they not submit to BP and their divine will!

  4. Look at all these douche bags protesting, telling BP to clean up the Gulf. Maybe the protesters should do something about it and volunteer, rather than sitting their asses at home holding up paper signs, complaining and complaining. BP are doing their best. People living in that coastal area are not even thankful for that.

  5. It’s been nice knowing you Gulf Coast.. :( I guess the next question is, how long will it take for the entire Gulf Coast economy to implode (bldg 7);o?????

  6. So much for the best and brightest.
Remember college boys ,just because your tuition check clears after a 4 or 8 year drunk and your handed a diploma, this doesn’t mean you know it all…or anything at all for that matter.

  7. I think these egg head scientists need to return to basics and handle this problem like they would back in their fancy uppity college days.
They’d need the following “college” tools to get the job done.

    Dozens of kegs of beer
    Illegal drugs
Date rape drugs for the co-eds.
and a tape of the Kingsmens song “Louie Louie” played in a continuous loop.
Then after they wake up from a 4 or 8 year drunk the problem will be solved?

  8. Gosh I have a playlist that suggest a nuke is next for clean up, that & toxic oil rains are hitting Florida.

  9. It’s becoming evident that they haven’t been in too much of a hurry to solve this problem. They say that they are going to cut part of the pipe off to add something that will direct the flow of oil up into tankers. If there is a pipe, then why can’t they slowly pinch it to stop the flow? I’ve done this successfully with high pressure hydraulic lines and I’m no engineer…..

  10. NOAA describe a natural seepage area in California: “One of the best-known areas where this happens is Coal Oil Point along the California Coast near Santa Barbara. An estimated 2,000 to 3,000 gallons of crude oil is released naturally from the ocean bottom every day just a few miles offshore from this beach”.

  11. With over 7000 off shore oil rigs in the world, if nuclear war ever breaks out, all oil rig workers will “drop the ball” on mass, and the sea will die.

  12. they will do anything they can to save their MONEY,its got fuckall to do with saving the enviroment.BP go fuck a donkey !

  13. So uhm… logic would dictate that they already tried the methods most likely to succeed first, yes? Which means now they are basically just shooting blind hoping for a hit? GG BP!

  14. If this thing can be fixed, or God willing, the undersea oil pocket is about dry, the first order of business has two prongs: one, the green technology scientists get their own White House devoted to getting us off oil, and two, the oil men responsible for this catastrophe still go to Mars…strapped naked to the front of those old ICBMs from the Cold War.

  15. Maybe they’ll hitch a ride on the Space Shuttle, and that will be the last flight of the program, money hungry oil men with hearts blacker than oil blasting off this fading green rock towards Mars, where they can drench the red sands in oil they’ve drilled three miles to reach.

  16. Every single biosphere on Earth, every single LIFE on Earth, was secondary to cold, hard cash. Except, whoops, BP and every other oil man is part of the biosphere, which should greatly concern them, that is, unless they’ve got rocketships stashed away to escape. Conspiracy theories sometimes fly in the face of all logic, but this one, this one sounds right.

  17. They knew this wouldn’t work from day one. Working on the surface doesn’t mean working under a mile of ocean. Now the oil is being spotted off the Florida coast, and then it’s round the tip of the country up the eastern seaboard. After the eastern seaboard? The open Atlantic Ocean, where it can then visit European nations, blacken their beaches and coat their wildlife. BP chose this volcano because it’s endless and they stood to make trillions off it.
