The world needs a new source of energy, an unspillable source.

  1. Because it does not produce any atmospheric emissions. It still does, however, produce highly toxic radioactive waste which is not easily disposed of.

  2. Its clean in the sense that it doesnt produce emissions such as burning of coal, however hydro or wind produced energy is much cleaner albeit not as effecient as nuclear.

  3. The only atmospheric pollution is steam and heat, the only ground pollution is heat (transferred from the cooling tower to the local river).
The ‘unclean’ part comes when one must change the spend fuel rods. They remain radioactive and very dangerous for years.

  4. For example when burning oil or carbon on electric plants they produce a lot of smoke and toxic gases that go to the air (just like a car does when burning gas).

But nuclear plants are not as clean as they claim. That’s just clever advertising. It’s true they don’t produce smoke but they need thousands of gallons of water to cool the reactor and that water end up being contaminated for thousands of years. The same goes for the waste they produce, which need to be buried “somewhere” for the next ten thousand years, contaminating land, water and air. Besides in the event of an “accident” you can be sure everybody around will die from their “clean” energy. When Chernobyl plant exploded a cloud flew all over Europe; now the city of Chernobyl is a real life ghost town full of contaminated buildings and no people.

So I don’t see how can they claim to be “clean” when they know their contaminants and waste are the worst in this World.

  5. If you knew the amount of radio active particles that are thrown into the atmosphere by coal plants, you would shut them down today….Nuclear is used by all of Europe and France as well with no ill effects

Why is nuclear energy said to be “clean”?
