Use control rods to interfere with the particles bouncing around. Since some particles will hit the control rods, they will not collide with the fissile material, and this will and reduce the amount of fission.
Control Rods
Control rods- made of materials (such as Cd or B) that can absorb a cross section of neutron energies. Neutrons absorbed mean less to react with the Uranium for example, and cause fission.
