The world needs a new source of energy, an unspillable source.

  1. Ok.. We are all fucked.
    They CANT fix this !!
This leak is the start of a volcano like explosion on its way.
The ground will give way soon and ALL the oil will surface.
    The start of the END..
    BP, knows it.

  2. .
    Small Containment Dome?
    .
I expect another TKF… ‘Top Kill Fail’. Whenever something fails spectacularly, it shall now be referred to as a ‘Top Kill Fail’, or TKF, for short.
    .

  3. If BP can survive is irrelevant.
The Gulf, and only time will tell how
far this will go…., is death gasping.
    There will never be “justice”
    or any “compensation” possible.
Ever. For what has been done.
    And will happen.

  4. apparently BP also stands for British Police since they can police and arrest people if they try to film this.

  5. @fal2grace But they did. Reported in the Huffington Post.

Guess they must have watched the movie “Knowing”, because they shorted the Gulf ONE DAY before the disaster.

  6. The government has closed all commercial and recreational fishing across nearly 62,000 square miles, or nearly 26% of federal waters in the Gulf. And growing…

    Still Too Small to Save?

  7. @continuityofliberty Oh but they did. They did short this. You can read it in the Huffington Post, April 30, 2010. Article by Andy Borowitz.

Remember these guys are smarter than the rest. The article states

“Goldman Sachs, the banking giant admitted today that it made “a substantial financial bet against the Gulf of Mexico” one day before the sinking of an oil rig in that body of water”

  8. An idea to tell BP your feelings. Stop buying gasoline at their service stations.

With enough people that care, the impact will be felt. They will then see the hole clearly – in their income statement.

  9. @continuityofliberty you’re right…so far it doesn’t seem that goldman’s figured out a way to profit from this:)

  10. It’s nice to see them actually doing things, but I don’t think this effort will work either…

Everyone involved seems so clumsy and foolish and they repeatedly talk about expense and profits – like chickens with their heads cut off running around trying to clean oil off their money, when most are concerned about ecological repercussions.

I’m surprised the greedy little chickens at Goldman Sachs haven’t figured out a way to short the spill with some sort of disaster derivatives market.

  11. @bweazel

Yeah we have the oil, the problem is Americans don’t get upset unless the mess is in their backyard, That’s why panties get bunched up when the cry of drill baby drill goes out. That’s why our manufacturing industries were shipped to China along with our jobs, that way our corporations can pollute other countries, work under no regulations, and pay slave wages to satisfy the over consumption of 5% of the worlds population Out of site out of mind right.

  12. Well if you believe the conspiracies, Alaska is home to the world’s largest untapped oil reserve. We have all the energy we’ll ever need, and that’s just the carbon based fuels. There are many other alternatives that would power this nation as well, but, there’s no monry in it, if they didn’t allow OPEC to act as a oligopoly, the western oil producers would not be able to indirectly benefit from the higher prices (which are purely speculative anyways)

  13. “We were ready for much bigger spill”? Haha no you weren’t, BP. You weren’t ready 30 years ago, and with all that time that you have had to increase the safety of off shore drilling, you’ve done… oh ya, absolutely nothing. So, you weren’t ready then, you’re still not ready today, and I’m willing to bet, after all the bills and fines have been paid, you’ll see it was still a profittable venture, and won’t be ready 30 years from now. Can’t expect much else from Big Oil though. Lazy bastards.

  14. Haha. I like how bloomberg felt it necessary to put BP’s logo on this segment in three different places, almost like ‘this decades oil spill is brought to you by BP’. Did you see that clip off of the Maddow show? Apparently this exact same thing happened in the Gulf 30 years ago, and they have been trying all the same things. Instead back then, they called it the “sumbrero” instead of the top-hat. Hah. Thanks for the post, Deb.
