I live in Michigan USA and I built one similar to this I got a decent amount of power compared to wind, but bugs were attracted to it. Did anyone else have this problem?

@SusannaMrsBMomEtc You just need to find one of the turbines, or make one yourself. Needs to be mounted on a shaft…find an old motor to hook it up to. You’d need a 12 v battery and an inverter for household use.

I love energy and science but this is lacking in both. The device that was shown wasn’t even connected to a generator and no potential watts / voltage were measured. green energy is the only sustainable electrical future we have

what you notice is nothing unusual…
they have pointet what can you use in your project… if you dont know have the wind power works then you have no project and you will not understend… everybody knows that you need generator,so they don’t lose time on that.

@wiredforstereo I have to agree, a cylinder spinning on a stick will not generate power, without a way to convert it’s rotational energy into electricity. It puzzles me as to why that is not mentioned in this video, afterall, it is about wind power, isn’t it? This thing is nothing more than a fancy pinwheel.

verticals have a backside pressure, as one side catches wind, the other resists the wind. the power of a turbine comes from how many square feet of wind you can catch. thus a little strip on one side of any apparatus isn’t enough to power much. verticals are fun as a science project but never used by any utility or serious wind power system.
