Question by Thurston: If Obama was on the Gulf Oil Leak disaster from Day One….?
Why did they tell us for several days after the explosion that “no oil was leaking” after the rig exploded and sunk into the water?
If Obama HAS been “on the crisis since day one”, as he has “consistently said”….Isnt this just FURTHER proof of his incompetence?
DAY 40: BP Says Top Kill results so far NOT looking good, and Obama is….on vacation.
Please, could someone explain to me how Obama has shown effective leadership in this epic disaster, or how Obama has shown any sign of competent leadership on ANY directive or policy he has “been on”?
Ash, he could have and should have instantly sent the navy and coast guard to asses the situation, instead of listening to BP who donated 1 million dollars to his election campaign when they told us all no oil was leaking out.
We do have our own underwater cams we could have sent immediately.
The coast guard would have needed an order from the president to investigate.

Only insofar as he believed the initial reports that there was no leak. Remember? Or did you want him to put on a diving suit and jump on down there to check it out himself??

In the beginning the focus was on the lives lost, remember? people died because of this explosion.
being on it, and being effective at solving the problem are two different things.
The government is very good at saying “we are on it” when they have no clue what they are doing.

Friday, April 23rd Coast Guard state no oil appears to be escaping from the well head on the ocean floor.
Friday April 23th The Minerals Management Service (MMS), a bureau in the U.S. Department of the Interior is also on scene.
Saturday, April 24th With remotely operated vehicles, officials discover the oil is escaping from two leaks in a drilling pipe about 5,000 feet below the surface. Leaks appear to be releasing 1,000 barrels a day.

The federal response stated long before President Obama issued a public speech.
WHERE DID YOU GET THAT LIE THAT THE COAST GUARD NEEDS AN ORDER FROM THE PRESIDENT TO INVESTIGATE FROM?
Don’t you remember that Obama sent the team of Lawyers and the SWAT team down there right away? The Lawyers were to give legal advice to any of the tar balls that survived their assault on the beaches, as the SWAT team shot at them as the tar balls were making their assault on the beaches. So that the tar balls could sue the Federal government for damages, both mental and physical, that were inflicted on them by being shot at by the SWAT team. Remember, “you can’t let a good crisis go to waste”.
He was aware of it from Day 1, talked about it from Day 1, thought about it from Day 1, played golf in there at some time, but he didn’t actually do anything helpful to resolve the situation – although I am sure he called the COO of BP on a daily basis to ask how everything was going. He probably got irritated that Governor Jindal (who said he called the White House daily) had more energy to look at solutions to prevent the oil from damaging wetlands and he did nothing to speed the approval process up for implementing Jindal’s plan. The Obama administration takes too much time talking and meeting and wastes valuable time – the notable exception being health care reform. Now, that he moved on quickly. This cataclysmic environmental disaster is meeting with the same sloth like speed as job creation, so as we have discovered we shouldn’t hold our collective breath.
