How does the BP oil spill affect Louisiana citizens?

I am from Terrebonne Parish in South Louisiana right along the Gulf. The oil spill affected us tremendously on every scale. Our main industries that we thrive from are the oil industry and the seafood industry. The oil is killing our wetlands and washing into our bayous and waterways. This is killing and contaminating our seafood. Almost every restaraunt in South Louisiana is a seafood restaraunt. All of our commercial fisherman, shrimpers, crabbers and so on are losing their jobs. The restaraunts are closing and many jobs are being lost due to no seafood coming in. Now that obama has shut down deap water drilling, many oilfield companies are moving to overseas. Not only are we losing jobs in the seafood industry, but we are also losing jobs in the oil industry. Oilfield companies do not have to pay taxes overseas so it is no problem for them to move there. People say “It’s only six months.” Any business that you shut down for six months will suffer. These oil rigs will not sit and wait while they lose money every single day and continue to pay their employees here that cannot even work. Several people I know have already lost their jobs. My husband will be leaving us to go work in Libia in a few months because his company cannot afford to sit in the Gulf and not drill. He has no choice but to go work overseas which is a terrible burden to our family. Those are the two most important ways we are being terribly affected. We are being affected on a scale no one can imagine. I pray for all the families here that we can get back on our feet and move on after this is over, if it ever ends.
