The world needs a new source of energy, an unspillable source.

What is the cost per kilowatt hour of nuclear energy if you include the cost of waste storage?

Question by greenhorn3k: What is the cost per kilowatt hour of nuclear energy if you include the cost of waste storage?
Someone else asked about the cost of nuclear energy, but it seems to me that the projected cost for storage and transportation of the spent nuclear fuel should be included in the cost estimates. Is there any way to determine the ACTUAL cost of nuclear energy, not just the “best case” version? How much does the Yucca mountain storage project cost? Also, how much does a tritium leak cost to leak up? I believe that there were recent leaks in New Jersey and Vermont into the groundwater.

I can’t tackle your detailed questions. Basically it is so that the issues of storage have been around for a while now, so it will certainly be factored into the costs. The ACTUAL cost of a kW.h of nuclear energy cannot be any different to that of a kW.h produced from other fuels. If it were, it couldn’t be sold (at least in a free economy) and no-one would build a nuclear plant.
