The world needs a new source of energy, an unspillable source.

  1. cutting the drilling has been the plan for a long time, now we finally have something to blame it on.

  2. What are you saying? The worst environmental disaster in the history of the USA has happened and we do not review the safety methods and fail safe systems?

Eleven people died and you think it is o.k. to put more workers in the zone of danger with out making sure things are safe.

The fishing industry is destroyed in the Gulf and hundred of thousands of people will loose their jobs and you say we should not review things to make sure it does not happen again?

And just like a Republican hypocrite you would be screaming impeachment if Obama didn’t put a moratorium on new drilling and then another disaster happens.
Anything to give a cheap shot at Obama.

You are an uncaring Republican sociopath that does not care how many people die and loose their jobs as long as rich corporations are happy.

  3. No, your initial assessment and any other assessment you may have had or will have is not correct. The moratorium is on new wells, not those currently in production. All jobs currently on oil rigs in the gulf are still there. As far as the economy, it will not be an instant gratification situation. It takes time.

  4. The cycle of life is the same regarding economics. This country cant afford to have multiple oil spill flowing at the same time; that would wreck havoc on jobs in the fishing industries as well as those affected in the tourist industries. In addition; the water ways belong to the public. The wildlife is food for human consumption. What good does it do anyone if your gas tank is full, but the food for consumption is gone or polluted.

  5. YES GOP KLOWN

let BIG OIL self regualted itself..AGAIN

    ha ahahahhahah

ALL OIL WELLS will have a 2nd oil relief well…

    get used to it klown

you anit gonna get no more oil WHILE
    RISKING the ENTIRE GULF ECONOMY

    foooooooooooo

  6. It’s a typical knee jerk reaction to a heated debate in progress. He will lift the moratorium once the spill is contained, he needs the economic growth of the oil industry to save his agenda, without some good things happening to the economy Obama can not move forward, just doesn’t have the money to perpetuate his agenda any further. We have spent way too much already and don’t have the economy to back it up. He is running in dead water already, so he will have to relent on the offshore drilling, that is just an economic reality.

  7. Excuse me, but a plane crash, while horrific, is not comparable to the national disaster in the Gulf. The oil companies have clearly demonstrated that they cannot stop a leak that deep and have no real plans or abilities to effectively clean up after it. The Gulf Coast is screwed for years, maybe decades to come. Can America afford to have this happen again?

Shut them down and I guarantee you that Big Oil will go into overdrive to develop new technologies for cleanup and making drilling safer. Pass new legislation to force the oil industry to take every safety precaution and not take cheaper shortcuts. Then, maybe, we can trust them to drill again.

  8. No you are not correct. Obama is right to call the moratorium, another spill might have cataclysmic consequences. If a plane going down carried the potential for widespread disaster that a spill does, then they would shut down flights, just like they did after 911.

  9. It is because Barack Obama is incompetent and was not ready to be President. Pure and simple. The man is a moron and moves any way the wind blows.

  10. Obama wants cap and trade and this is his way of getting it. Fear is the first step to total control. He will use this disaster to pave his way to total control of the people. Next step is to provide assistance just to keep you at the poverty line.

Is my initial assessment of the Gulf Disaster correct?

Question by Yin: Is my initial assessment of the Gulf Disaster correct?
First, we have an oil well still leaking that is an environmental and economic disaster. Then, our beloved President piles a second economic disaster on top by placing a moratorium in the Gulf which is going to kill more jobs.

To me, we don’t shut down the airlines every time a plane crashes so why shut down oil production? Is any other country shutting down oil production right now?

Our economy is headed down the toilet.

Perhaps it is true in your “mind”(?).
