Question by : can a fully solar vehicle be a viable alternative to a petrol driven vehicle?
i am doing a project on solar vehicles and whether they can be an alternative to a combustion engine
what are some sections i can look into to come to a conclusion.
i need more info on
battery types/materials/combinations.
solar cell materials/power produced/efficiencies/ how they are arranged etc
body materials used and cost of the materials
what other sections should i research to come to a conclusion
performance figures all relate to the cells/battery and the weight, anything else i can add
thanks

Amount of sunshine required, speed capabilities, driving at night?

it is viable but not at the moment, you can already get electric cars with rechargeable battery, which although cheaper to run are expensive to buy and the battery isn’t durable. charge time can be reduced to make it a null point, and range is already at feasible (though not great) levels, charge time should reduce range trouble though.
i think solar energy is not at a level in which it can be widely used at the moment with that sort of application with the expense/ effectiveness, and the reduction in effectiveness needed to protect it from damage.
practically not feasable

Yes if you can store the energy in a battery so you can drive at night.
Only if you have an acre or so of solar cells to charge the car and you live in a place that is rarely cloudy, like Phoenix.
