Question by : does anyone have a baby on pregestimil?
my 3 month old is in the hospital with failure to thrive as he has stayed right below the 5th perecentile in weight. he has always had severe gas pains, cramps, belly issues. they have run multiple tests and have come to the conclusion that he is not absorbing fis formula properly. they have me adding mtc oil to his formula nutramigen to chunk him up as it is easier for them to digest. so far it is wokring. his stools are looser but he is passing some much needed gas, and has already gained almost 2 oz in a lil over a day.when researching mtc oil i found pregestimil a hypo allergenic formula but with mtc oil as its fat source unlike other formulas. has anyone used this?? what were the side effects if any and did it help your baby gain weight.we are being discharged today and hospital is referring him to gi specialist. for now i am to continue adding the oil to bottle but it doesnt mix with formula just sits on top like you would expect an oil to do it. my son has always been able to kill a bottle back in no time but since oil doesnt mix he is having a harder time eating. figured if this formula already has it in powder than that would be the best of both worlds. i will talk to doc but wanted to know peoples experiences with pregestimil. if you do not know anyone that has tried it then please hold back on the comments as that is what i want to know about. thanks!!!!!!!!!!

Hi. My daughter has fat mal-absorption so she also has problems keeping body fat. I mix pregestimil with my breatmilk and is working pretty well for her. She is gaining weight just fine so I will say it is a good formula for your situation. It is light and easy to absorb. Now, if you only use pregestimil (Powder+water), make sure to warm it up. I think that is the only way babies could take it because the taste is sort of bad compared with other formulas.
