Question by tonymonton: What is the reset button on the Square D magnetic motor starter for?
I tried reading thru the literature, but it’s still not clear to me.

When the Motor starter is energized all the current of each leg passes through a resistance coil around a spring loaded peg. The peg is held in place by solder inside a tube around it. If the motor draws too much current the resistance coil heats up melting the solder and releasing the pin which is connected to a switch that disconnects the motor from the power. The reset button, when pushed, resets the peg against spring pressure and allows the motor to start again.

the reset button can be used to de-energize the seal in circuit for the motor stater coil as well…. if the contact is made by ,,,say L1 on the contactor and there is a seal in circuit holding the coil in . the reset button will act as a stop button breaking the path to the coil…Sometimes the reset button clears all the contacts.. for as long as you have it pressed. If you mean the reset button on the magnetic starter cover, this is for resetting the overload relay when it trips without opening the magnetic starter cover.
