  1. No, but I also never have believed that the US has been safer since 9/11. There is also the fact that was reported last night that Al Qeada is up to pre 9/11 levels. The world is never going to be the same, we need to get used to it.

  2. America is safe from everything except attacks from its own government. 9-11 was an inside job, the anthrax attacks were an inside job, and the next terrorist attack will be an inside job.

  3. Yes, we are.

Do you think some government agencies weren’t this stupid BEFORE 9/11?

  4. I walk past a rock wall – a rock falls on my head.

is the wall safer or more dangerous now?

    neither!

  5. Do not believe everything you read in the news. The government plants things there to make citizens feel unsafe. I am not kidding.

  6. look. i know what you’re trying to say. but, it’s misleading. the NRC should have done a MUCH better job. but, loopholes in government agencies have been misused for MANY years. not just now. sometimes it takes things like this to see where mistakes can be made. i’m sure there’s much more to this story than what it says. regardless, it should not have happened. i understand that. but, all im saying is.. that story, you, and others like you should not be proclaiming that we are unsafe now under Bush than pre-9/11. if it was as easy as you and the news report says to get the radioactive material.. don’t you think that terrorists would have exploited that by now? something else… it doesn’t take much, like the story says, to make a dirty bomb. materials from X-ray machines can be used. you make it sound like we can go to the neighborhood nuclear materials store and buy uranium. i SERIOUSLY doubt that’s what was being bought. all the story said was radioactive material..

  7. Yes I do. Before 9/11, despite numerous terrorist attacks against the US, very few Americans were even remotely concerned with their vulnerability to terrorism. There was no interest in ascertaining hole in national security and plugging those holes. After 9/11 more and more people take this problem seriously and the government has taken numerous known and unknown steps to safeguard national security. Of course no one can know everything but as the threats and weaknesses become known they can be addressed.

Remember however that plugging the gaps in security is often hindered by political demagogues and activists judges who have less interest in your security than in their own personal aggrandizement.

After reading this, do you still think the US is safer than it was pre- 9/11 ??

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Undercover investigators, working for a fake firm, obtained a license to buy enough radioactive material to build a “dirty bomb,” amid little scrutiny from federal regulators, according to a government report obtained on Wednesday.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued the license to the dummy company in just 28 days with only a cursory review, the Government Accountability Office said in a report to be released on Thursday.

The GAO, which set up the sting, said the NRC approved the license after a couple of faxes and phones calls and then mailed it to the phony company’s headquarters — a drop box at a United Parcel Service location.
