The world needs a new source of energy, an unspillable source.

  1. no, otherwise it would already be mainstream. Where are you going to refuel it?

Give it time. I heard the government just created a fund for the H-Prize or something like that for the first peron or group who can devise ways to store, transport and refuel with hydrogen. It’s not an easy material to work with.

  2. Your best bet for a conversion to get off of Fossil fuels partially is to do a electric conversion. Run the vehicle solely off of Electric power. To avoid recharging with Fossil Fuel electricity you could recharge batteries with a combination of Solar and Wind power. For long trips just bolt a Diesel Generator on the back with a charge controller to keep your batteries charged. All of this is hopelessly impractical but COULD be done if you have more money than brains. My suggestion? Look to other areas of your life to cut back on your energy use. Get a copy of ‘HOME POWER’ magazine to learn the path to energy independance…Live green…live off the grid…

  3. Hi there, good to hear you’re trying to help reduce carbon and pollution emissions. Despite the nay-sayers, there are solutions. Might cost a bit though!

Clean Technology Center Collaborative do a conversion kit – which actually works – you can see pictures of converted cars here: http://www.shfca.org.uk/article_image_list.fcm?subsite=6942&section=46

However, you might find that selling the Jeep and buying a hybrid 4X4 is a more economic (and environmentally friendly) option.

As for it being 50 years before hydrogen-fuelled engines, fuel cells and hydrogen fuel is available – don’t believe that! Have a look at “H2ICE” in Google – hydrogen internal combustion engine. Also have a look at the ‘Hydrogen Highway’ projects in the US, Canada and Germany.

So, short story: you’re moving in the right direction, but probably trying to go about things in the most difficult possible way. Hybrids are probably the way to go for now – maybe that new Lexus RX400h or one of the new Ford SUVs coming out soon?

Can anyone tell me if I can modify my Jeep with a hydrogen bolt on system to increase fuel economy?

I want to know if there is a Hydrogen based bolt on system or component that I add to my inline 6 in my Jeep? Hydrogen technology has been around but before it goes mainstream, I am sure most modern engines can be equipped with a system that is partially fueled by hydrogen thus a less dependence on fossil fuels and increased MPG. It will be 50 years before hydrogen engines/fuel becomes mainstream so until then or until I die, I would like to see if I can modify my current gasoline engine and combine it with a possible bolt on system.
