  1. this beats cenks pseudo science in his vids haha. good work, mr kim.

  2. Yeah, Ivan is just obfuscating and arguing moot points.

Ivan is saying that the NRC has to power to shut down a nuclear plant if it’s unsafe, but Kim’s argument is that regulatory power is not new, and it has a demonstrated history of not working due to short-sighted profit-driven companies buying off any inspectors to get the needed approvals, even if the plant isn’t safe.

Kim’s right, and I wouldn’t trust Ivan at all. He seems to have an excuse in his pocket for everything.

  3. I agree. Watching the full interview (even the edited version) would be awesome. Or RTR, at least number the video clips or create a playlist with the video clips in the correct order.

  4. the Inspector can say … Shut down until you shorten it, He can do that … But Will he, Is he being Bribed Not too ?? We have Problems All across North America with Nuclear Plants Deteriorating, I say a list that said Over 52 Sites were in Critical Disrepair … Think anyone is Fixing them ?? , We had a Leak in Canada Was Blown off 78000 Liter’s of radioactive water released into water table.. not to mention the 2 in the states that are leaking ATM, or Fukashima’s 3 meltdowns, But its Safe…

  5. Hi please upload the full interview instead of the choppy bits, I can’t figure out which one is first. Other than that its a GREAT interview thank you and I think you should get TYT to promote this channel its awesome

  6. Yes Bernie, it is your job to get involved in that fight. And as a senator of Vermont for 16 years you have done nothing to improve the people of Vermont’s energy sustainability nor have you improved the safety of Vermont Yankee. That is because you and Peter Shumlin are not representative of the people of Vermont. If Bernie had been a true representative of Vermont it would never have come to this.

  7. What? I’m agreeing with Sanders? We’re all going to die!… eventually.

  8. What I want to know is; Why are these people titled “HONORABLE”? also, who are these are people, are they scientists, researchers, I’d like to know how much they get paid from the tax payers pocket..i’d like them to be audited, it’s pretty obvious who owns their allegiance and it is NOT the American Public.

  9. Sanders and Kucinich are awesome. It’s like they’re real people and most of the others are mannequins.

  10. I thought the NRC was employed by US, the American people. How can these scoundrels hide their votes and the nature of their recommendation when it affects milliions of people? This is outrageous. well done, Senator Sanders, but makes us angry!

  11. I wish he would run. Now would be a great time lot’s of people are fed up with the current two headed snake system.

  12. That is what I used to think. But, Vermont only gets about 10% of its electrical power from VT Yankee. Shutting it down won’t have as big of an impact as Entergy says it will. Plus, when an old plant is closed, the spent fuel rods need a location to be stored, and everything that has been around or touched by the nuclear materiel has to be delt with as well. my final point on this is that these plants are economical to build.

  13. So I guess the elves are leaving radioactive residue in the soil around the nuclear plant? Those nuclear power ceo’s lie, lie, lie.

  14. Thank God for Senator Sanders. Take back the world from these communists ruining it. We are suppose to be a DEMOCRACY! Not 1 percent rule the other 99%. Please people rent the NEW Micheal Moore movie CAPITALISM A LOVE STORY. WE ARE NOT A COMMUNIST STATE! The people of Vermont have spoken! No more discussion are needed!!! They have already lied to the people 1:50+…

  15. Most people in this country don’t realize what a precarious position we are in with nuclear energy. All it would take for disaster is one really big earthquake or terrorist attack. And they still haven’t come up with a practical solution for all that waste. Scary, very scary.

  16. Let’s hide our manipulation & acceptance of bribes behind “privileged discussion”. What happened to government for & by the People? Democracy not fascism/corporatism!

Yea, Bernie Sanders. Keep after these corp brown-nose-ers.

  17. The bad part is if they shut it down there would be rolling blackouts as there is not enough power to go around I was in the NAVY for 6 years on SUBS and was a NUCK on board I was a e-5 and was on 3 boats during which we never had any NUCK accident If they military can run all those subs with very low problems then why cant the plants keep running without problems . I worked a little while for a plant and it was ran great some plants play the game some do not.

  18. I recommend simplifying the language: if it is too wordy, well, you know… still the best senator though!

  19. Can you imagine what a great place this would be if we had 99 more Bernies.

  20. Here’s hoping Bernie runs. I wish he ran last time.
If America will “hear” him, then he’ll win.
One debate with the Republican nominee & it’ll pretty much be over. : ) LOL

  21. What annoys me here is that none of them want to say how they voted. And they all try to bounce around the issue. They cant stand up to Sanders. He’s got Balls of Steel…Love you Senator!!!

  22. This is a REAL states-right issue. Conservatives should be outraged about stuff like this, alas, they’re too detached from reality.

Sanders is legendary, one of the few people in the US govt that isn’t bought. We need more people like Sanders with integrity & backbone.

Can We Trust the Nuclear Industry?

Jonathan Kim wonders if the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is as corporate-influenced as the rest of the government, while Ivan Catton (prof. of engineering at UCLA) explains how past mistakes have made the NRC a better organization.
