CNN is reporting that BP and the federal government say that the BP Gulf Oil Spill has been permanently stopped using static kill. The claim is that by filling the well with mud heavier than oil the well has been put in a ‘static condition’ meaning that even if the cap was removed the well would no longer leak. But is it true? Several videos captured from the underwater robots monitoring the well show that the well is still leaking in several places on or near the blowout preventer.
