a computer especially an idle computer doesnt take that much electricity. unless its a super high end dual cpu kind of system. but if its a normal desktop then just leave it on, no big deal.
in such a situation the standby feature is a good option . it is fast (takes less than 5 s) saves electricity without turning off the computer( a resting mode
it really does not use much energy to leave a pc on around the clock and it is better for a pc to let it run especially towers laptops do not cool as well and require a cool down period every once in a while to remain stable and not over heat but to leave a pc on just have it setup to go into standby this uses very little energy and saves from wasted time for boot and powering up with uses a lot of power and is hard on a pc.
For only 45 minutes I say just leave it on at low power mode. I only turn my computer off when I know it will not be used for a long period of time (i.e. going to sleep for the night, at work, or on vacation greater than 3 hours is a good number for me)
