BP took the cap off the oil gusher in the Gulf after a reported accident on June 23, 2010. According to an AP report, BP confirmed that it had replaced the cap by 7:30 EDT on the 23rd, and that oil collection had resumed. Yet, the live feed available on CNN showed that the cap was off at least by 12:40 AM on June 24, 2010, if not at an earlier time. Did BP have to take the cap off again during the evening of June 23rd? Was there a problem with the cap or its seating on the well? I watched about 6 attempts to place the cap on the well until 1:30 AM on the 24th. After placement, voluminous oil flowed from under the cap. I contacted 20 or so media outlets along the Gulf Coast, as well as the NY Times, after I took this video. On the 24th, I consulted a highly regarded engineer who opined that the cap looked crooked. He questioned whether this would affect the collection of oil. So, what’s up with the cap? Is there a problem? If so, is BP going to fix it?
