Q&A: Is the BP Oil Spill considered an Historical Event in America?

Question by Katie: Is the BP Oil Spill considered an Historical Event in America?
I’m writing a Research Paper and it has to be about a Historical Event that changed America in SOME way.

I have a philosophy that the BP Oil Spill was a probable subject matter. Is it? I’m going to ask my teacher, but just want to know if it could be considered as one. I’m more engrossed into a Natural Disaster that changed American, rather than something politicial. :)

Any help appreciated! :)
Thank You!

I think since it is still impossible to see the long term consequences on the spill (envionmental and otherwise) that a researce paper would be difficult. I think you should consider something that happening farther in the past since their is more information about how the event effected America. Possible other idea: Three Mile Island Nuclear Meltdown.

  1. Yes it is a historical event. However, I believe the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill in 1989 had a larger environmental impact than the BP Oil spill and it resulted in Congress passing the Oil Pollution Act of 1990.
