my new toyota scion has a blue light on which according to the manufacturers booklet it indicated maintenance required…I still dont know why its a specific “flush” requested when i just changed the oil on a car…it sounds like a conspiracy to make me waste a lot of money on maintenance

Isn’t the car still under warranty?
I don’t know of any manufactuer that recommends a Flush before an oil change. In fact using a Flush in a Saturn will void the engine waranty.

Engine Flushes–The Latest Scam
Engine flushes pump heated solvent through your engine, supposedly to wash away sludge. But regular oil changes with detergent oil already take care of the sludge problem. And if you actually have an engine that is full of sludge the last thing you want to do is do an engine flush because the sludge can clog the oil passages and destroy the engine completely. These flushes are completely unnecessary. All they do is wash the money out of your wallet. As Click and Clack state: “This is what’s known in the business as a “profit center.” Something the garage can use to beef up the amount each person spends per visit. So unless you’ve got a very old car, and are trying to solve a specific, sludge- or carbon-related-problem, I’d skip the R-2000.” These engine flushes usually sell for about $130. The victims are people that think that they are doing something nice for their vehicle by cleaning the engine. In fact a dealer or repair shop that tries to sell you an engine flush should be avoided for all service because they are untrustworthy.
Most of these oil change places are trying to sell you one more thing to make a profit.
If it isn’t listed in you owners manual don’t do it.
it the Snake oil sales pitch.
Waste of money and sometimes worse than that.

Ask your dealer (call therm), I think this is just a standard oil change though…
if you’ve changed it you should be fine but since your not take it to the dealer to have them look at it.
Ihave never heard of that. It might be that it is one and the same thing. If you had the oil changed at say Jiffy Lube (bad idea), then they might not have reset the computer. It is supposed to calculate the number of miles left to the next oil change and if it was not reset when it was done then it might send a code. Hope this helps!
No a conspiracy,Flushing out the oil get rid of the old oil that maybe clogging your engine.Putting new oil on top of old oil works for a while but there is so much dirty oil in there that the new will get dirty faster. Then you will have the same problem as if you put no oil in it at all.
working at jiffy lube we do a lot of oil changes but when we work on our own cars, and our girlfriends, we flush them.
we flush them 1 of 2 ways. you start off like a regular oil change. except after you finish draining it you put about 3 to 8 quarts of new conventional oil into it and let it drain out. then put the plug in fill it up and go.
but the best way what we do is. completely drain all the oil, put the plug back in and put a new oil filter on. fill it with however many quarts the oil capacity is sually 3 to 6 quarts but scion. im guessing 4) with transmission fluid. turn the car on and let it run for about 5 to 10 minutes. shut it off, drain it againand before it finishes draining shoot some fresh oil into it. let it COMPLETELY drain out. then put the new oil in. take the new oil filter off cause it’s contaminated with tranny fluid now. and put a new one on.
tranny fluid has a lot of additives, some of them are detergants. so putting it in ur engine and letting it run is like bleaching it.
i really hope this helps. but do it every oil change, maybe every 3 or 4.
Honestly i have been a mechanic for 35 yrs,,i own and operate a business, and this is the first time i have ever heard of that,,who told you that anyway,,it is not written in no owner,s manual,,nor is it in a repair manual to do this to a new model car,,ever who told you this is not all there,,pardon my excitement,,but it is never a requirement to flush the motor out on a new model car,,all your required to do is keep the oil changed every 3-5000 miles,,and that’s it,,other than the usual stuff,,but don’t let anyone talk you in to spending money on something you don’t need,,I’m glad you asked this question,,because a similar incident like this was on here a while back,,maybe the person who asked then will see this, also,,i hope this helps you.,,,PS there is one other thing that may be requierd,,ans that is to re-set the computer ,,if the light came on,,this is so that it does not keep telling you it is time to change the oil again.
I think you just have a light that needs to be reset. Take it back to the place that changed it and ask them. Flushing is not a good idea on any car. Most warranties will be voided if you flush an engine with a flushing system. You can do what the one guy said about draining the oil refill,(with engine only not tranny fluid) run the engine and re drain and then refill and be done with it. Kind of like rinsing out a glass of chocolate milk. You pour it out and put milk back in and it will still look like chocolate do it again and milk will look white.
Its just a load of bull, not needed and on a older car…. with maybe a little sludge but nothing real serious…. may break it loose and clog the oil pickup….. oops, no oil pressure…..
AS for transmission fluid….. lmfao at that answer…. trans fluid not only has barely any detergents…., it has barely any additives…. it would more then likely (being around a 20 weight) wear the engine out more…. since it is made to grab, not slip.
