  3. Not only should BP be held financially responsible, but criminally responsible. Frontline (pbs) put out an investigative journalism show on BP and their culture of negligence and “economizing” by taking risks and not performing maintenance. In addition, the UK government should be financially responsible as well the US gov. The shareholders and bond holders of BP should be wiped out paying for this disaster.

  4. There was no way in hell that BP could control the spill. So they acted like they were containing the spill. It was all a farce. So the oil industry has destroyed a beautiful resource enjoyed by millions of people. A shame the Gulf was a fun place to visit for me, but I won’t go back. The heads of BP should be put to death.

  5. When capitalism is out of control and supported by corrupt government. We have, in the last 50 years, a steady polarization of society – into an increasingly potent and concentrated wealthy minority and every growing class of poor. The new ruling class are the oligarchs. This has to end.

  6. I take back “never more” with lots/plenty. Don’t worry the lawyers will keep getting rich for a lifetime.

I live near Pensacola. Never more tourists coming here to burn skin and consume alcohol.
Yep. I wold think 3 times before eating gulf seafood. I knew a guy who worked a few months at a restaurant near the beach and got like $25k. Payouts are very uneven. As usual the lawyers came out richer. Lawyers, special interests and Illuminati run it all. Educate.

  8. BP always puts a Black Face on their TV commercials, as if to say, “even Blacks will tell you we’re doing it right”. BP is full of shit.

Gulf of Despair – USA

Toxic legacy of BP disaster lives on To see more go to www.youtube.com Follow us on Facebook (goo.gl or Twitter (www.twitter.com Two years after the Gulf of Mexico disaster BP say the area is back in business. But in reality oil is washing up on the beaches, local residents are falling ill and the peak of the crisis is yet to come. “We are glad to report all beaches and waters are open”, states BP in a new advertising campaign. For the oil company business can resume as normal, but for the communities whose livelihoods rely upon the waters around the Gulf of Mexico business could not be worse: “there are no oysters growing so our future is very uncertain”. Moreover, many locals who volunteered during the clear up are now suffering potentially fatal health problems caused by toxins in the chemical BP used to disperse the oil, Corexit 9527. “They are having breathing problems, headaches, breaking out in rashes, asthma…”, explains a community worker, Glenda Perryman. And there could still be a wider threat to human health; strong evidence suggests the oil has got into the food chain. “We’re finding it in larger quantities over a one-year period after the spill, so it’s bio-accumulating. It’s going to impact on generations to come”, says Wilma Subra, an environmental scientist. As with the Exxon Valdez disaster in Alaska, it will take a few more years before the real impact of this spill is felt. For those in the locality, that may be too late: “I don’t know if I am living

New Zealand is facing its worst environmental disaster in decades after a container ship stranded off the North Island started leaking oil off Tauranga in the Bay of Plenty region. The government has been trying to disperse the spill by spraying chemicals on it while other crews raced to remove the remaining oil from the vessel. However, many people are angry at the authorities’ slow response. Some believe that the this crisis could have been prevented. Al Jazeera’s Jamal Elshayyal reports.
