The world needs a new source of energy, an unspillable source.

  1. The area where the nuclear radiation is generated is heavily shielded. Under normal working conditions, the workers are exposed to minimal radiation as specified by law. The workers wear dosimeters that measure their exposure. We all are exposed to radiation every day from natural sources.

  2. It’s real simple. If you set foot on nuclear reactor property, you get given a personal dosimeter that you wear outside your clothes. It records the total exposure you have had to radiation.

The cheap ones just turn colors.

But nowadays they’re really into the electronic ones which beep at certain thresholds such as

Here, you can see goofballs driving into the Fukushima exclusion zone. Note they have TWO dosimeters, no fools they.

    They have a “Terra-E” dosimeter

Note that started beeping at 2.5uSv/hour. In most countries, the limit for radiation workers is 20,000 usv/year. So when that thing started beeping, they could only stay in the area for 8000 hours before they would exceed radiation limits for nuclear workers. 8000 hours = 333 days. Radiation limits are set by doctors and LAWYERS. The game is simple: don’t let a worker get exposed enough to convince a jury in a lawsuit that his health problems are your fault. That even applies at Fukushima.

(watch out for u (micro) vs m (milli). m=1000*u.)

Also keep in mind the dosimeter is on the outside of your clothing, and some radiation can’t get through clothing.

There’s nothing on a reactor site that will suddenly mega-dose you with massive amounts of radiation randomly before you could get outta there.

How do workers in nuclear power station keep themselves from being contaminated by nuclear radiation?

Question by LOL: How do workers in nuclear power station keep themselves from being contaminated by nuclear radiation?
I think working in a nuclear power station is quite a risky job. How to the workers keep themselves safe from nuclear radiation in the power station?
