The world needs a new source of energy, an unspillable source.

  1. Most things have their own power switch. Also many items have an instant on ready it would be a pain to reset the alarm every night. Much electricity is wasted from these items…such as microwaves and other electronics.

According to the US government http://www.energy.gov/applianceselectronics.htm Many appliances continue to draw a small amount of power when they are switched off. These “phantom” loads occur in most appliances that use electricity, such as VCRs, televisions, stereos, computers, and kitchen appliances. In the average home, 75% of the electricity used to power home electronics and appliances is consumed while the products are turned off. This can be avoided by unplugging the appliance or using a power strip and using the switch on the power strip to cut all power to the appliance.

  2. America has the reputation of being the worlds greatest gas guzzling energy wasting and polluting country why do anything to change? Every little bit helps! sorry about my little rant at America but its true…about time for the good old usa to set an example and clean up its act!

  3. No socket plug switches in the US because the cost of electricity is so low. All utilities are much higher in Europe. Until the switches become cost-effective, or building codes make them mandatory, no one here will use them.

  4. In America we have many required light switches that control a lighting outlet. It is much easier than a switch on the outlet or have to pull the plug.

With switches on the appliance this is not necessary.

Plus many of todays appliances have remote controls.

Plus the inventor’s dream made good : The Clapper.

  5. In addition to the information provided by others – please keep in mind that in North America we use 110v , not 220v like much of the rest of the world. Because of that, our entire house wiring systems have been designed differently.

In America why do they have plug sockets without switches?

Isn’t it a known fact that you should switch off at the plug socket to conserve electricity. But here in the US, we need to take off the plug from the socket each time, which is ridiculous.
