  1. what:s up with the music hehehe..I am in my bed at 12:15 midnight hehehe..loud music..hahahaha..

  2. no sound at all would be a vast improvement over the current selection..still an intresting video

  3. I agree completely. I am baffled that anyone would think the music would complement the majesty of the engineering. At least speakers can be turned off.

  4. Very very cool video.
Upstate NY should get more credit for its
educational and technological achievements bot past and present.

  5. I think it’s funny how people posing in old photos just had their arms flat to the side and the most basic pose possible. I believe it’s because the camera shutter had to stay open much longer (like 10-30 seconds) so the basic pose was necessary and I understand why, but it still looks funny. I’m going to start posing like that in photos. :)

  6. I originally had a different (annoying)song, but owners rights was a problem and they made me switch out the sound track, so now none of the video sound is not available, just the current annonying song.

  7. They gave tours when it first opened about 25 years ago. It must be impressive because the entire volume of the river flows through the station unless river levels are very high.

  8. This is very close to where I live! a few years ago we drove past it I gotta definitely take the tour now!

  9. Thx m8, I guess theres a bit too much background noise to hear the humming of the stators clearly.

  10. You can hear the generators in these two very short videos:
“Mechanicville Power Plant” and “Mechanicville Hydro Plant Generators”.

  11. Awesome equipment!, i love old open frame genny’s and motors like those.

Great music too, but I’d love to hear the gennys running too!

  12. I wonder if you can help me… i have some questions about hydroelectric generators…

Mechanicville Hydroelectric Station Tour

Albany Engineering President James Besha lead a Tour of the historic Mechanicville Hydroelectric Station on the Hudson River, on Jan. 20, ’07. This is the oldest continuously operating hydroelectric plant in the United States. It has run 24/7 for more than 100 years. It’s so old its output is at 40 Hertz, so they change frequency with a Motor/generator set.
