Is there any new form of space propulsion (besides ion drives, vasimr) currently being developed that could begin operation in the next 25 years or so to exceed the speed, efficiency, and range of the current space crafts that NASA and other space programs around the world use. Something that could perhaps reach the edge of the solar system within months and still be able the achieve greater distances.

Scientist are trying to find new ways biut with no great signs of success but who knows whta they will develop.
25 years is a long time in science and scientific development. 25 years ago most schools had a computer room containing the school’s single computer!
Here is a really interesting article about the Heim-Droschler Space Drive.
Possible? Okay…
In the next 25 years? Have you MET NASA? No…
In the next 25 years, certainly not. However, I’m sure with time these technologies will emerge – maybe a century.
Because of the Budget cuts to N.A.S.A. funding they are designing Diet Coke & Mentos powered directional thrusters.
To be honest 50 years from now N.A.S.A. will still be using chemical rockets to get them into space where other countries with larger budgets will be doing more than N.A.S.A. in the fields of space exploration, that’s just my opinion.
There is one possibility that could work since the invention of nanotubes,it would be based on the conception of the trebouchet.
i heard they invented this material that can be used as sails in space. I think its called a solar sail or something. It basically is moved by UV rays, similar to how wind moves ship sails. Really cool. And cool thing is, the craft that gets direct rays from the sun, constantly accelerates. And in never stops accelerating, until it hits something, or gets caught by gravity.
if there is they won’t tell you about it, until the military regimes of the world are disbanded, or they evolve out of their secrecy on sensitive issues like this.
Military would have first and foremost grasp on this…not any of us!!!
But not necessarily as well. Some pioneers who are independent and loners have gotten attention from ‘big business’ or men in black, and have sometimes stumbled upon something very unique and clever.
experimenters throughout the world…in the US of A and Canada and abroad, have brought all sorts of ‘electric’ ideas to the foreground about propulsion. Of course, some of these ideas are even further beyond nuclear power and the like.
Check at the National Space Society and Space Studies Institute Web sites. I’ve kind of lost track of what’s new. The last new Idea I heard of involved using laser and some sort of atmospheric refraction to lift space capsules into orbit. I think I understood the idea better when they were just going to blast the bottom of giant ice cube under it to create steam and push it into orbit. Well, they’re inventing things faster than I can read about them. Something will work, I just don’t know when.
