Q&A: My truck still hates me ! Overheating !?

Question by : My truck still hates me ! Overheating !?
Still trying to solve my truck issues from hell ! ! Please don’t kill me ! !

Ok now please don’t laugh about my truck, I have a 1992 GMC 1500 short bed with a 1969 Camaro 350 engine in it. I will drive it for like 10 min and it will heat up to 230-250 like it’s ment to be that hot ! It boils and sounds like it’s gonna die out at that point but won’t stall or anything. I have done a lot to try and fix it !

what’s new :
400 TH transmission, new ALL aluminum (sp?) rad, new wires for spark plugs, bypassed the heating core, tried a 160 & 195 thomostat (tried no thrmostat), new oil, new fluids.

when I bought the truck the guy said a new water pump was put in but I’m not sure how to tell if it is new or not.
(not a new pump I think, seems to be working fine, big thanks to my new buddy who helped me with this one!)

Will a distributor (sp?) cause overheating?
if it’s the wrong one or what not?

There is no back pressure (exuast pipe broken) will that cause it?

I’m pretty sure my timming is right (8 degrees above top dead center).

also the engine is bored .30 over.
could that have messed it up?

I have heard of the water in your oil means a blown head, but would there be oil in my overflow tank if it was a blow head as well? there is no water in my oil but an odd oily glisten to the fluids in my overflow along with black crap at the bottom of the overflow tank!

I checked the spark plugs like one of you had mentioned (thank you) and there is black sticky oil crap all over the 4 on my passanger side, the other side looks good !

My next question is…..
what the hell does that mean ???

A blown head gasket?
A cracked head?
A warped head from overheating maybe?
Leaky valve?
Pistons?

I’m at a total loss and I love my stupid truck ! I do all the work to it myself yet all I have done has not solved my poor babies issue with overheating !
Any and all input will be thankfully taken, since I can’t afford to take it in I have to try and fix it myself.

did you check your radiator ? no clogged ? flush it !
is your truck equipped/using “clutch fan drive” ? check / replace if too soft to turn..
did you reinstalll radiator shroud? is the distance of radiator to fan blade correct?
did you install the fan blade correctly., if you happened to remove it, you may have installed it the wrong way, air must flow going to engine not going to radiator, inward !

check also valve clearance and timing.
check for any broken by-pass tube/hoses
