BP is steadily collecting more and more oil from the blown out Gulf oil well, but questions still remain about the company’s response efforts. Doug Suttles, BP’s chief operating officer, told the Associated Press that it would be down to a relative trickle by Monday or Tuesday. But now BP is downplaying that prediction, reports CBS News correspondent Mark Strassmann. And Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen, the government’s point man on the oil spill response, sent BP CEO Tony Hayward a letter Wednesday demanding “more detail and openness” about how the company is handling mounting damage claims in the wake of the spill. Suttles, appearing on CBS’ “The Early Show” Wednesday, said the company’s containment efforts were capturing about 15000 barrels of crude a day – close to the current system’s capacity – and were planning on bringing in another vessel to capture an additional 5000 to 10000 barrels daily. But he concedes the company “will never capture every drop.”
