The world needs a new source of energy, an unspillable source.

  1. The biggest advantage is when a fusion reactor is out of fuel or has any issues it just stops, while a fission reactor can go into a catastrophic meltdown and have major problems.

  2. The ‘waste’ products from a fusion reactor are helium (which can be sold commercially) and not a lot else. There is some residual radioactivity, but not nearly as much as the highly dangerous products from a fission reactor.

There is also enough fuel in the world’s oceans to last for hundreds of millions of years. Uranium deposits cannot last for more than a century or two, if that.

what are the main advantage of a fusion reactor compared to a fission reactor?
