Question by deniise: What’s this white filmy stuff in my fish tank?
ok so after i got my snail and fed it lettuce, the lettuce gave off an awful bacteria that killed my whole fish tank. i cleaned and scrubbed and bought fungus-killing tablets but nothing is working. now in every single fish tank in mine (i have about 5, and dozens of little fish tanks to hold fish in), whenever i put water in it, and let it stand for a little while, theres a clear layer of stringy stuff that forms on the top. and when the move it aside, say with a piece of paper, it turns white and stringy and stays at the surface. i have no idea what it is and ill try to post a picture later but its killing ALL my fish and the fungus-killing stuff isnt working.
like i got one of the containers, filled it with water and tons of the fungus stuff and a few days later the layer started forming again. it kinda looks like oil on top of water but it can get thick enough so u can’t see through it.
please help! anything will help!

If i was you i would drain each infected tank, put the fish in an unaffected tank or bucket but dont transfer the water, hose down and brush hard with a towel but no soap with very hot water. Take the gravel out if you have any and wash that by putting it all in a bucket, putting hot water in the bucket and sifting through it. Then set the tanks back up. Also a bigger filter might help.

First I would remove the filters and all filtering material – Then it seems your local water is contaminated with ‘something’ – So you need to buy some ‘clean’ water to fill your tanks – You must do a total clean of each tank , one at a time , then try to re establish a new colony in one tank to start with – It sounds like you need to cycle each tank again as they will be like starting new tanks
