For years the Democrats have claimed that US gas was too cheap and the low price was causing environmental degradation and delaying the development of cost-effective alternate energy. The claimed conspiracy was that US Oil companies were conspiring to keep costs low and buying up alernative energy technologies to keep us hooked on oil. Why are they reluctant to trumpet the triumph of their policies to reduce oil exploration, nuclear energy, hydro-electric power and new refinery construction in the US? Could it be that they are too modest?

Because they want to obtain alternative energy and reduce consumption through complaining (it never works either). Rather than DO what they want, they complain for someone else to do it for them. Sad, isn’t it?
Just in case you haven’t noticed, another one of those Democrat jackasses last week proposed a $.50 tax added on to the cost of gasoline to make people use less. This is the same theory that Ted Kennedy has been proposing for years.
In a way I am. But here is a return thought. Why arent Rep denouncing the tax breaks they have given the oil companies? Why did georgie not sign the bill that would have used those breaks for alternative energy? I thought Rep were against Gov subsidies. That is in effect what those breaks are.
Because it is causing the suffering of others. High energy cost come with high food costs and other little uglies. It shouldn’t take something like this to intiate alternate energy technology already available.
Actually, most liberals are pleased that market forces likely will do what political will on the part of Conservatives who have been controlling things most of the last 10 years could not do – reduce the consumption of fossil fuel.
Money, money, money. They disbanded the Dept of Energy created by Nixon to get us out from under dependency on foreign oil. So there went the source for up and coming alternative energy sources.
Now, thanks to them, we are still in the same place, but the dependency has increased further.
They have their party equivalents whom are reaping the money glut from the higher prices.
Want the prices to go down, join the boycott against Exxon and Mobil, loss in their profits will bring about faster change in gas prices.
Mark the simple reason the Dem’s and sadly the republicans as well wont address the issue is that higher fuel prices damage the economy especially when they rise quickly, we as consumers cannot increase our salaries 10 cents an hour every 3 days and decrease it a penny every 4 months so our spending reflects it, the Dem’s wont admit they are responsible for the probable recession because that would take the initiative and either control the prices or push and achieve alternative fuels to the consumer as quickly as possible. Republicans recognize big oil isn’t going to say ” well its been a good run but we are ready to release our power” and what of the impact of closed stations refineries suppliers @ fuel tankers, equipment makers, additive companies) the auto industry would convert gladly as all they really want is to sell cars. add all the lobbyists who are daily wining and dining both sides and we have this mess
