I thought the USSR fell back in the late 1980’s. How exactly is this a national security issue?

Perhaps they will create some jobs. Apparently none of our US mining companies are interested. Look at the “free market” Republicans protesting. Meanwhile with the scheduled moth balling of the space program, we are going to rely on the Russians to launch all of our satellites. Did the Republicans in congress protest?
