  1. Like Deviopop I was raised that way too. I was obese until I got to college, when I moved away form my family, and taught myself proper nutrition. It all has to do with nutrition, most people in america do not have th ebest budgets for food and healtheir food can be rather expensive or spoils fast. They do not know better and go for cheaper junk food. The problem is America itself not willing to change and things will only get worse.

  2. it comes a lot easier for some people, i think most can get thin but have to watch every single thing they eat and exercise a lot. Its a lot harder and more expensive to eat well and exercise when you are really busy.

I recently have lost some weight but it was hard work

  3. I’m 15.
I eat all my veggies, i detest the taste of grease which rules out any burgers or anything.
I play sport everyday for at least an hour. On thursday i train for rugby for 3 hours.
I’m not fat, I’m not skinny.

Then again, my friend for instance.
She does NO excercise and eats the most appaling amount of junk food.
Yet, she weighs the same as my younger sister.

I think it is to do with the DNA, it has to.
Some people are naturally skinny and some are naturally fat.
People ‘let’ themselves get fat for so many different reasons.

It is there problem though, and if it’s not affecting you then what’s the problem?
    Take 5 x

  4. I have no idea..

    I’m 19 – 5’8″ – 124lbs. I usually eat whatever I want. I guess it’s just genetics ..?

  5. I dunno, I gotta blame some of the parents though. If they have a child they see is gaining weight they should control their diet better, it’s not like the kid feeds him/herself, or buys his/her own food.

  6. The convenience of process foods, whether it be fast food, junk food, or nuke food, it is so much more obtainable then organic food. Then there is our sedentary lifestyle, where a lot of people work in a cubicle by day, then watch television by night, and get from here to there by car.

Laziness, which leads to depression, is probably the main culprit.

  7. Aww there are many many possible causes! People might eat without control because they are depressed, because they feel bad and that represents in a way an outlet.
Just like smoking or biting nails.

  8. Mostly because they are married..See single people don’t like to be fat because they want a partner…the rest of the people that are single is because a it’s on there genes..

  9. I don’t think most people intentionally “let themselves get fat.”

Weight can creep up on you as you age, and a lot of the time it can be difficult to modify eating habits and the amount you’re eating. Also, it doesn’t help that a lot of people don’t enjoy exercising.

But, everyone can become a healthier weight if they educate themselves on the nutritional content of foods (most people seem to be oblivious to it), and have the determination to eat better and a little bit less.

Why do people let themselves get fat?

Question by D.Russell: Why do people let themselves get fat?
I won’t accept “my thyroid” or “my diabetes” excuses. Diabetes can be controlled by a diet and your thyroid should be fine unless you live inside of a fission reactor.
