No. The gravity and depth of the environmental, ecological, and economic damage done by an oil rig that explodes in the ocean could reasonably be compared to a nuclear plant accident.

Most of the wells are in shallow water, and they actually blow up pretty frequently, but you don’t hear about them because it’s far easier to fix a shallow water well.

If all the oil wells get same amount of “consideration” from the government (Obama’s government and prior ones) with regards to inspections, then yes, we’re lucky that it’s only been the one catastrophe.
