because it is expensive to produce a hybrid drive train
hybrids use so much rare metals, if not too many
you can’t just all of a sudden axe cars from production.
because they suck hydrogen is teh way forward
American Muscle > tree hugger cars.
yeah i know but nobody that is being influenced by the recession. (most people are) won’t buy anything beaCuse they just would rather keep the car they have and just use more and more gas only they do not realize that they could saVe money. maybe they do but just can’t afford the monthly bill. My mom just baught a new hybrid preeis. It is awesome and a light silvery blue. It is very cool and I love it!
the hybrid technology is here but the economics of it is still not effective yet, also if you had longer lasting cars that would lose money for new car sales (because you wont need new cars that much) and the US relies heavy in the car industry (as you can see with the whole bailout programs CARS program etc etc). so in short to answer your question, we do need hybrid cars but the economics is not there yet…
Because the oil companies are powerful rich, and electric cars don’t use gas. There’s billions to be had in kickbacks, bribes, and payoffs yet, so you won’t see the end of gas guzzlers for awhile yet.
Because their not that good yet. People think, OH WOW, I have an electri car and I am saving the EARTH. How is electric manmade? It is made by coal, oil, and gas, sometimes water. HOLY SHIT, I am not doing anything good for Earth, I just think I am. People are tools
It takes time for manufacturers to be convinced that the market needs to have a certain product, and then time for the manufacturers to produce the product in the quantities needed to meet that demand.
The auto industry has one of the longest research-to-showroom times of any product, and it is definitely concerned with only long-term trends.
Only recently have hybrid cars from US manufacturers been available.
I do hope they will eventually make what is needed, a very small car that is purely electric for short hops and then hybrid for longer trips. Toyota’s next Prius will be able to do this.
it’s all politic, if those country produce oil can not sell it where are they going to get their income, world economy will collapse so just take one at the time so everybody can be happy
“They say we need to be independent from foreign oil but yet they keep making gas guzzlers”
You have two “theys” in the same sentence that represent two distinct groups of people.
I am not included in the first group of “theys”, but I do take the side of the second group of “theys”.
——————————————————————————
Let’s take them one at a time.
“They say we need to be independent from foreign oil”
In this case, the “theys” are retarded.
“They keep making gas guzzlers…”
In this case, “They” are giving the customers what they want.

wouldn’t it be better for us in the long run?
Probably. Let’s let the market figure it out.
yeah, i think everyone should have hybrid, there great cars! it would help in the long run, but really we need solar and electric cars.
the economy
People don’t want hybrids. They are small, cramped, slow, cant haul, cant tow, and expensive to buy.
For the same money you can buy an SUV that can take your family and your boat to the lake.
When they make an electric vehicle I can AFFORD that can haul 10 tons of hay 100 miles ON ONE CHARGE or a hybrid that can do the same, THEN I will get rid of my 15 mpg “guzzler”, TRUCK!!
Until then, I’ll just keep on “truckin'”!
By the way, my NEWEST vehicle is 1978, and I paid $1,500.00 for it in 1998!!
There are several factors affecting the sales of Hybrids.
1. They are expensive than normal one. People are not really pinched so much these days and hence don’t want to go for it. Compared to the initial cost the running cost pay back is not so attractive.
2. Since they use batteries along with petrol engines, there is a fear that the battery technology may change in future, making today’s car difficult to make the makeover.
3. There is a false sense that bigger cars are safer than small cars. and the hybrids are small cars for the present.
Yes, why not.
I think the problem is powerful oil lobbist that pay the politicians to sell the US consumer out in favor of oil profits. But you can accually but a lot of hybrides, such as a BMW hybride, and a Accura Hybride.
Fairly large corporations are only probing the concept right now. So, they create cars that run on both hydrogen and fossil-fuels. This is supposedly to stimulate the idea of a full-scale production. Therefore, it might be a while to start up the process. The only real problem right now, is that the world is somewhat in a recession, and we can’t really afford to make this happen right now. Plus, oil companies have a tendancy to make things harder for the process. Additionally, we have to make the conversion of oil companies, gas-stations and vehicles toward hydrogen plants, hydrogen- stations, and hydrogen-vehicles. In conclusion, it might be a few more years.
It’s still a nitch market. I’m in Japan now and have seen honda hybrids for around $10,000 less than they sell for in the US. Shipping costs at the most a couple hundred dollars. The rest is just mark up for the dealer. If more were made they couldn’t sell them for so much.
The best way to go is bio-diesel! We have enough land to grow enough corn/soy to feed the world and provide a renewable fuel source. Plus the new diesel technology, being used in Europe but not available in the US, will give you well over 60 mpg in an economy car. This will out perform and gets better mpg than a hybrid. Also you will be helping by not using the “precious” metals required to build the large batteries required for a hybrid.
I cant help but think, the way fuel cells are configured, even a tiny breach in the hoses that convert to hydrogen would cause a major explosion.
Because we need development in those cars. People may think: OH MY GOD YOU HAVE A PRIUS@!(*#y)&@!#*@)YOU CARE ABOUT NATURE!!!11!!1!!!!!
But thats actually the only thing they can be proud of.
Because most of these new cars are ugly and only thousands of people have a prius.
If they want to make profit and let people drive hybrid/electric cars they need a hybrid Lamborgini which drives 1/15 and is as fast as a normal one.
