If the current US vehicle fleet were replaced overnight with PHEVs, oil consumption would decrease by 70 to 90 percent, eliminating the need for oil imports and leaving the US self-sufficient in oil for many years to come. Even if the electrical power for those vehicles were drawn from coal-fired power plants, CO2 emissions would drop by more than half. If the power were produced by renewable energy sources, and the fuel in the tank were biodiesel or ethanol, the proposition gets exponentially better. And you can get 100+ MPG!

its a korean car. the build quality and reliability is enough to rival GM. but the design is ugly though. Ssang yong doesnt commercialize in US but they do here in Chile. Rather the diesel engine than a electric for these trucks.

Trust me the truck is big enough. its a bit smaller than the f150 and the dodge ram. its about the size of a toyota hilux but a bit wider and lower. plus the truck is korean. aka Ssang Yong.

Those home kits usually use DC motors with Lead acid battery. Basically the worst setup for electric vehicle. Very heavy and inefficient batteries with a motor that lacks power and features. Its only bonus is, its cheaper.

If you type in Phoenix SUV/SUT into google they have their own site. They claim they are leasing fleet vehicles and plan on selling to consumers starting this year. They also say on their site they plan on rolling out a battery in late 2009 that is capable of 250+ miles per charge (with the same 10 min charge to 95%)
This is the perfect car for the average middle- income American. Better deal than the Tesla Roadster.

You know, its not that I’m against alternatives – but its comments like this that expect ridiculous things. You can either go backwards and to a prehistoric footprint where everyone lives like the Amish, you can try to put more government incursion into peoples lives that they already have and ban cars and who knows what else, or you can try to help get new technology off the ground that will help energy and vehicles. I like to think the 3rd option is the best. MT and bikes dont help rural areas
