We found a small hydroelectric generator in a farm during our tramp in the Tararua forest Park. A friend of ours told us about then something heard a loud noise and saw a small tine shed, so we decided to check it out. Turns out is was the small hydroelectric generator! How it works: All the water from a creek above is funneled down a long pipe, hitting the turbine at some speed which drives the generator which provides somewhat single phase 230 VAC to a house on a farm.
