  1. Are you trying to use the Hydrogen in ammonia?/, How do you strip it from the nitrogen.??

  2. By using various catalysts (which I am currently in the process of researching in particular a K promoted Ru Catalyst on alumina) 2NH3 decomposes to N2 + 3H2. So in essence, ammonia fuel will work the same as H2 fuel does in a fuel cell… however filling your fuel tank with ammonia is leagues safer and possibly more economically feasible than charging a fuel tank with hydrogen. The process of decomposing Ammonia is currently the limiting step and universities and private institutions alike are working to find the solution. What is known is that if we can use ammonia as a source of hydrogen as opposed to a hydrocarbon like methane etc. we can avoid the release of potentially harmful COx products and also make use of the more energy efficient fuel cell (over the combustion engine) which in turn will be another step in conserving our environment.

    A simple experiment to produce H2 would include passing a steady molar flow of NH3 (possibly in a carrier gas, hopefully not air as H2 + O2 = Water and a lot of heat) over a packed bed reactor containing a specific catalyst made to decompose NH3 at a few temperatures. You could use a mass spec or even a residual gas analyzer to measure your results.
