The world needs a new source of energy, an unspillable source.

  1. -People know that coal, along with hydro, wind, solar, natural gas, nuclear, biofuel,… are used to produce electricity.
-More toxic materials are in the gasoline that would be burnt than is in the batteries.
-The batteries last longer than most people keep vehicles these days.

  2. if you drive on the highway alot it is not worth it, because the batteries on most highbrid cars only are used until 75 km/h

  3. I have worked with available data that shows in the worst conditions, like driving an all electric car in coal intensive Kentucky, the net pollution is similar to a high mileage as engine car, while on clean energy states like California, electric cars come way out ahead.

Range anxiety is still the biggest electric car issue, there are plenty of happy owners using them in their daily commutes, recharging overnight on excess off peak energy, using conventional cars the few days a year they take extended vacation road trips.

Older generation nickel hydride batteries were a bigger environmental threat than the latest lithium ion batteries deemed safe enough to dispose of in land fills.

  4. Oh, you are just trying to shock us. But the truth is more shocking than you may know:

Some people know that even if all of our electricity came 100% from coal an electric car would still be cleaner that a petrol vehicle. The petrol vehicle is not very efficient (15%). It wastes much more fuel through inefficiency than is needed to move the vehicle. The electric car is extremely efficient (90%+)and the coal fired electrical generating stations (30% – 60% efficient) are more efficient than petrol cars so the combination pollutes far less.

Additionally some who are concerned about electric cars don’t realize that refining oil uses electricity. (And some of it is from coal fired plants) The refining process is so inefficient that the energy used to refine a gallon (or liter) of oil could power the average electric car further than the refined gallon (or liter) could take an average petrol burning car. So if we eliminated the refineries we could go further and pollute less using no additional energy than we use now. 1

Your battery issue is also an old debunked argument. 95% of current highly toxic lead acid batteries are recycled. The materials are relatively common and are not particularly valuable but there nevertheless is a value in recycling them over mining and refining new products.

We also know that battery technology is rapidly changing where it will end up is anyone’s guess. Presently the batteries being developed are the most costly part of an electric car due to some rare and expensive materials in them. If cheap lead acid batteries are 95% recycled can you must see that batteries that are very costly due to the materials in them will be a real prize for anyone to recycle. Send all your $10,000 and $20,000 used batteries my way. I won’t even charge you to take them.2

  5. Half of the energy produced by the power plants is lost in the transmission due to resistance in the lines…………….do the math

Electric and Hybrid cars are not that great?

Do people know that coal is burned to create electricity?
And that more toxic metals (compared to a regular car battery) are mined to create the large batteries in both Hybrids and Electric cars?

And that those batteries don’t last very long?
