The world needs a new source of energy, an unspillable source.

electrolytic cell horror story!?

i recently constucted an electrolytic cell based on: Zn(s) + Cu +2 —> Zn +2 + Cu(s). the voltmeter read 1 volt, not the expected 1.10 the standard cell potential (Eo). What in the world could account for this?

copper electrode larger than silver one? Zn+2 solution more concentrated? solutions in half-cells have different concentrations? KCl was electrolyte in salt bridge? Zn formed different ions than the copper. like maybe..the Zn+2 electrolyte was Zn(No3)2 and the Cu+2 electrolyte was CuSO4?
