  1. The captain of the ship was intoxicated at the time of the crash. He ran into an barrier reef. Tons of animals died. The best estimates are: 250,000 sea birds, 2,800 sea otters, 300 harbor seals, 250 bald eagles, up to 22 orcas, and billions of salmon and herring eggs

  2. i did a project on this a few yrs ago…..it really affected the populations of sea otters. the oil killed a lot of them because their fur actually keeps them warm and their skin dry. when the fur was soiled, they got wet and cold and a lot died. only a few were actually rescued :'(
