The world needs a new source of energy, an unspillable source.

  1. It would also be nice to see a training program for young people looking to get into nuclear energy and the high technologies involved in it instead of importing talent from India.

  2. What about licensing modular nuclear units to improve energy efficiency at key extraction sites and shipping?

  3. So we have as our sources of energy…1) Coal 2) Oil 3) Nuclear power 4) Solar power 5) Hydro-electric power 6) Wind power….now all these are either inefficient or cause some sort of serious health or environmental problem…now the real question is, is their another alternative? Nikola Tesla said there was and the only problem with it was that it was free. Look it up.

  4. Nuke energy isn’t clean or safe.

But solar and wind power are.

Oil will have to run out altogether before we’ll switch- when they finally are forced to admit the strip mines they create to get uranium ore don’t operate well unless you have OIL to power the equipment.

    Idiots

  5. hate crime laws PROTECTING WHITES IN AMERICA YES WE CAN ! every other race is protected WHY NOT WHITES WhiteIGNITERS IS PRETTY SURE since whites are the most preyed upon and the least protected that this will happen in 2010 ! PROTECT WHITES NOW 2010 !

  6. As I said previously, if we reprocess the materials, they only have half-lives of 100 years. And, there was evidence of a natural nuclear reaction in Africa. Again, I don’t think youtube will allow me to post a link, if I’m wrong, please let me know.

  7. I am having trouble posting a link to a website. Google world nuclear, and use their site.

  8. First off, I am currently working on a Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering. Here is a site that may help you.

  9. I think also the stuff can leak into the environment. If it’s not all recycled, as you say might be possible, then it could leak and spoil the environment for many thousands of years.

  10. I’m not trying to say it’s not radioactive, you can’t be stupid with the stuff, although that’s true for pretty much everything. If terrorists wanted to get their hands on something radioactive, terrorists would find it somehow. I don’t think we can influence that very much.

  11. Burninator, you make a lot of statements and tell us to do reading. Do you have references for your claims? Also, whether people scream does not matter. If the nuclear energy industry wants to build here, they should solve the problems.

  12. So you think if nuclear waste leaks out from where it is, or is exposed by somebody digging there years from now, that noone would be harmed by that waste? Why do people take such precautions when they are hauling it? Why don’t people want it in their neighborhoods? You also dismiss the possibility that nuclear materials might be stolen and used by terrorists. That’s not a danger?

  13. Every bit of technology has a down side. I’m not only talking about nuclear, but solar and wind and everything else too. The main thing that I don’t like about America is that they have put a hold on researching new ways to handle things. How can we do anything with people screaming bloody murder at the first mention of the word nuclear?

  14. @eameece Just so you know, there has never been anything proven to cause birth defects or cancer from low doses of nuclear radiation. You would need a bomb for that. That statement is completely unfounded.

  15. @Burninator3210 What about the remaining 10%? If we build lots of nuclear power plants that is still a lot. “other countries already do this. America is behind. If everyone else is doing it, why aren’t we?” That question applies to a lot of things, doesn’t it! America is a backward country indeed…

  16. Saying that putting poisonous nuclear waste in the ground for 10,000 years or more is “clean” is a betrayal of the environment. This stuff could cause birth defects or cancer. Noone wants it in their state or community. Noone can guarantee its safety. It remains to be seen whether Obama and Co. will be willing and able to do the things Burninator claims can be done.

  17. @Burninator3210 Don’t forget that you need a high amount of Pu-239 for weapons grade. The stuff the comes out of reactors (which in its self requires large amounts of technology to isolate) is spiked with so much Pu-240 and other isotopes that its completely rendered useless for weapons grade production. Weapons grade Pu is only made from special breeder reactors like the ones that where in Savannah where its sole purpose was to make weapons grade Pu. Keep up the good fact telling, and go nukes!

  18. And to further answer your question from before, the nuclear waste which we can process to have a half-life of a hundred years could be contained, as opposed to other emissions which are probably more deadly which are produced by fossile fuel plants. Most reactors are rediculously over-engineered. We just need to make sure that the standards set are followed everywhere, which is a major problem I admit.

  19. The fuel that would be left over is fission products, which can’t be made into bombs at all, although these products are highly radioactive, they only have a half-life of 100 years or so. This is certainly better. And the Plutonium made could be used peacefully and not made into bombs. So what if we did this and we got all this Plutonium to deal with? Well, other countries already to this. America is behind. If everyone else is doing it, why aren’t we?

  20. A good question. Roughly 90% of the nuclear waste the United States produces is usable. In other words it is fissile material that could be extracted to be used again. The United States has currently banned reprocessing because it produces Plutonium which could be made into a bomb. However, if we use the technology that is here and currently in development, we could use a fast breeder reactor and use up most of the nuclear waste.

  21. @Burninator3210

What’s “proper handling” of nuclear waste to you? That stuff has a half life of thousands of years at best…

  22. I mean to say, we can’t live in fear! Someone says, “Hey, lets blow something up!” and everyone panics. Being scared of something that has a very different configuration than a nuclear weapon is pointless, and there is research underway to make what are called breeder reactors. GOOGLE IT!!! They are reactors that basically create more fuel than the burn. Read up on things people. And with nuclear waste. If handled properly, it has no impact on the environment whatsoever!!!!

Investing in Clean, Safe Nuclear Energy

President Obama announces more than $8 billion in loan guarantees for two new nuclear reactors as part of the Administration’s commitment to providing clean energy and creating new jobs.
