  2. Uranium comes as a mixture of two isotopes, U238 and U235. The amount of U235 is low, and had to be increased for a nuclear explosion to occur, or for nuclear power to work. Since isotopes are identical chemically, that involved a lot of work to find ways to separate them. Note that nuclear plants, as opposed to bombs, only require that the amount of U235 be increased from about 0.7% to about 4%. For weapons, you need 90%.

    Second problem is radioactivity and induced radioactivity, as all the objects near the reactor become radioactive and dangerous.
